WEEKLY UPDATE

Compassion

11/12/2015

I would like to acknowledge Miles for receiving a Kindness award today.  Miles is very aware of how other people are feeling and is full of hugs.  He is helpful and treats everyone with kindness. One student was chosen from every grade level as well as one student from each nest group.  Since we are focusing on kindness as a school this year, next week we will be learning about compassion.  Each day we will learn a different indicator.  1.  I treat other people as I would like to be treated.  2. I help other people.  3. I am sensitive and kind to the feelings of other people.  4. I encourage and praise other people.

INDEPENDENT STUDY:
  • Lexia- Please work on this for about 20 minutes.

  • Math Worksheet- Use the Count and Check counting strategy.  Mark each picture as you count in order to keep track of what you counted.  Make sure to read the directions.  They are supposed to color as well.

  • Teen Numbers- Please continue to quiz your child on the numbers 11-19.  I will assess them again at the end of next week.  Make flashcards for the ones they do not know and work on them.  Click on the Websites tab above to find a website to reinforce the teen numbers if your child is struggling.

  • Practice Read to Self.  Read to Self is just having your child read by themselves.  At this point, most of them will just be reading the pictures.  See if you can do it for 5-10 minutes. Look for the sight words I, am, little, the, to, a, is, have, we, my, like for, he, me, with and she and read the pictures.

  • Choose ONE of the following:
    1. All You Turkeys Dance Around Click on the link in orange to listen to the song about turkeys. Watch it a few times and dance and sing along. Draw 3 things you learned about turkeys. Write sentences or label your picture.
    2. Listen to the story 10 Fat Turkeys. Draw a picture of 10 fat turkeys and number them 1 - 10.
    3. Engineering Project-  Create a pencil case out of materials at your house (paper, straws, cups etc.) Bring it to school to share with the class.  Criteria:
Needs to be able to hold 3 pencils.
Needs to be able to open and close easily.
Needs to hold the pencils without any falling out.
             Needs to be strong.

HOMEWORK:  The following assignments are to be done Monday-Friday
  • Practice reading our sight words - parents can make flashcards: I, am, the, little, to, a, is, have, we my, like, he, for  NEW THIS WEEK: me, with, she

  • Read to your child for at least 20 minutes.

  • ZooPhonics- Work on the ones your child does not know.  The lowercase letters are especially important since those are the most used when we read and write.

  • Read the two books in the folder each night.  Follow this format:  1.)  Read it to them as you model tracking the words (point to the words as you say them).  2.)  Read it together while tracking the words.  3.)  Have them read it by themselves while tracking the words.  Read these books everyday.  The repetition will make it stick!

Thanks for reading and staying informed!

    Mrs. Silski

I'm thrilled to be teaching my sixth year at HRCCS!  I went to Chico State where I received a BA in Liberal Studies, a Minor in Latin American Studies and my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.  I taught 3rd/4th for eight years at a multi-age, project-based, performing and visual arts school in my hometown of Stockton. My husband and I moved to Auburn in 2007 to be close to the trails and raise our children, Robby (9) and Amaya (4).  I enjoy painting, cooking, working in the yard, and eating my way through San Francisco.
