In Social Studies we are learning about what the president does, Abraham Lincoln and American symbols. Addition & subtraction continue to be the focus in math. We are using pictures, ten-frames, number lines, and our brains to solve problems. We also continue to write. After we read a story we respond with writing. The kids make predictions, give their opinions, make connections with the characters, recall information, state the problem & solution, and describe the characters. Next week we will learn about dental health. I apologize for not returning homework. I want you to know that I have looked at each and every assignment and appreciate the work you are doing at home. If you have not already downloaded the addition flashcards from last week's IS, please do so. I will continue to assess the kids. We have moved on to subtraction. Next week is Read Across America Week. I will forward an email with additional information. It is also conference week. If you have not already signed up for a time, check out the school's weekly update for the link to sign up. I just finished the report cards and love seeing the students' growth. i look forward to sharing that with you. INDEPENDENT STUDY:
Here is the Independent Study for Friday and next week. Please do everything on the list each Independent Study day. IS days are February 11, 16, 17, and 18. Enjoy your time off! INDEPENDENT STUDY:
We have been working hard in our reading groups! One group worked on the word families -et and -ed. The other two are working on vowel digraphs (oa, oe, ai, etc.) They learned that when two vowels going walking, the first one does the talking. Magic e is also being covered. In math we are playing a lot of games and covering everything from adding doubles (6 + 6) and matching numbers with ten frames. Next week we will focus on teen numbers and the concept of ones and tens. We had a lot of fun with Groundhog Day. The kids made their own predictions and learned that we will have an early Spring. Next week's weather seems to validate the groundhog's prediction! Yesterday I gave each Destination Imagination group a pile of cardboard and plastic "trash" I have been collecting and told them to make something as a team. They made a movie theater, a jet and musical instruments.
We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Thursday from 12:30-1:00. I have assigned each child a secret valentine and they will write about them as a part of their homework. We will reveal the secret valentines during the party. If you'd like to make valentines for everyone, here's the class list: Miles, Caroline, Weston, Lily, Saige, Siena, Anna, Luke, Max, Matthias, Henry, Shane. Also, if you'd like to bring a healthy snack to the party, you can drop it off that morning. We are going to exchange valentines and play. From 11:10-11:45 we are going to play Minute to Win It games. If you'd like to donate candy hearts, candy corn, chop sticks, or a bag of marshmallows, that would be great! Please bring them by Tuesday so I have enough time to gather what else is needed. Also, if you'd like to help out during that time, let me know. Thank you! INDEPENDENT STUDY:

Thanks you for staying informed! Best, Mrs. Silski |
Mrs. SilskiI'm thrilled to be teaching my sixth year at HRCCS! I went to Chico State where I received a BA in Liberal Studies, a Minor in Latin American Studies and my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I taught 3rd/4th for eight years at a multi-age, project-based, performing and visual arts school in my hometown of Stockton. My husband and I moved to Auburn in 2007 to be close to the trails and raise our children, Robby (9) and Amaya (4). I enjoy painting, cooking, working in the yard, and eating my way through San Francisco. Archives
