We are replacing this month’s Learning Conference with a newsletter. So, here you go…
Destination Imagination- This year we are doing Destination Imagination instead of science projects. I would love to have 1-2 parents that are interested in being team leaders. Check out http://www.destinationimagination.org/ to see what it’s all about. More info on this after break. Lexia- As I mentioned last week, the kids have lots of momentum and I don’t like the thought of them losing it over break. I’d love it if you continued to have your child work on Lexia over the break to keep the momentum going. Compliments- After our week of learning about compassion a few weeks ago I realized that the kids didn’t quite understand how to give compliments. I mentioned this to Mrs. Goldsby and she told me about a viral video going around about a teacher that gives each student a compliment every day. I decided to do the same thing and it’s probably the most affective thing I’ve done as a teacher. Behavior is better, the kids and I are more connected, and I’ve never received so many hugs! They are also complimenting one another now. Dinosaur Presentation- On Tuesday the Discovery Museum came and gave a presentation on dinosaurs. The kids rotated throughout 5 stations and got to touch real dinosaur bones. There were also life-sized models of claws and a T-Rex skull. Math- We will continue to work on word problems when we get back. You will be seeing a lot of word problems in the IS. Writing- We have been working on writing. They say the sentence they are going to write and count the words in the sentence. Then they draw that many lines on their paper. It helps with organization and spaces. I’ll see you in a couple of weeks! MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Best, Mrs. Silski This is my most favorite week of all! We read many versions of the Gingerbread Man and compare them. Today we read Gingerbread Pirates and several of the boys used their imaginations during recess and reenacted the story. So cute! Tomorrow they will make their own gingerbread men with Mrs. Hancock...hopefully they do not escape the oven and run around school! They will also make a gingerbread man during art and write about it.

The Holiday Show is quickly approaching and I meant to tell you about the kids' costumes sooner to give you plenty of time. Each year the kindergarteners perform the song "Good Things Come in Little Packages" and wear a wrapped box so they look like presents. You will need to make their box and bring it to the Holiday Show. Please let me know if you have any questions! I am disappointed that I only have two weeks with the kids until Christmas Break. They are all doing so well and I am loving the climate of the classroom. I don't want to lose the momentum we have gained! REMINDERS:

Mrs. SilskiI'm thrilled to be teaching my sixth year at HRCCS! I went to Chico State where I received a BA in Liberal Studies, a Minor in Latin American Studies and my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I taught 3rd/4th for eight years at a multi-age, project-based, performing and visual arts school in my hometown of Stockton. My husband and I moved to Auburn in 2007 to be close to the trails and raise our children, Robby (9) and Amaya (4). I enjoy painting, cooking, working in the yard, and eating my way through San Francisco. Archives
