We enjoyed watching the nuptials of Q & U. There were so cute all dressed up and creative with their gifts. Liam was hilarious and thought it would be funny to unwrap a carrot as a joke. He had us in tears! Thank you to my wedding assistants, Sara, Priscilla, Dree, and Megan. Also, thank you to Melissa for providing fun and engaging Valentine's Day centers. Ask your child what their favorite was. Science Night is approaching! Each kindergartener will choose a STEM Challenge to do and then share the process. So far he has been to Wisconsin to learn about cranberries, Alaska to learn about 3 different bears, India to learn about Diwali, and Mexico to learn about poinsettias and tin art. We have been reading many versions of the Gingerbread Man as well. Ryker's mom came in and read If you Take a Mouse to the Movies and gave them popcorn & mandarins. Thank you!

Hello! We had fun ths week learning about things that are opaque (not see through), translucent (kind of see through) & transparent (see through). They made a translucent piece of "stained-glass" art. Ask your child to teach you what they learned. We also talked about how shadows are made and traced each other's shadow with chalk. Mrs. Goldsby was our mystery reader today and took the kids on a reading adventure! She read a pirate version of The Night Before Christmas and took the kids on a treasure hunt. The next 2 weeks would be a great time to come in to be a mystery reader. Please send an email if you're interested! You will need to make your child a wrapped box for the Holiday performance on the 15th. It needs to slide on top of your child's head easily. Please bring the box on the night of the performance. They will be singing Good Things Come in Little Packages. Let me know if you have any questions. For the next 2 weeks we will be learning how people in other countries celebrate Christmas and I need your help. If you are able to bring any of the following, please email me by Saturday so that I can shop for what's left. Please bring the items discretely so that your child does not see them. A worldly Gingerbread Man will be making deliveries to the class and teaching us about traditions around the world. 1. a poinsetta 2. 1 yard of white felt 3. 12 large sewing needles for popcorn and felt (I NEED THESE ON MONDAY MORNING) 4. 12 Pepperidge Farms gingerbread cookies (I NEED THESE ON MONDAY MORNING) 5. 3 bags of cranberries (I NEED THESE ON MONDAY MORNING) 6. 12 small bags of treats (stickers, pencils, etc.) I am keeping the discussion of Santa to a minimum since it is evident that a few kids do not believe in him. There have been some heated discussions in class and we are focusing on the fact that families have different traditions and beliefs. INDEPENDENT STUDY: Please turn in all homework on Wednesday.
The class hit the polls and voted for President! Duck beat Farmer Brown in a landslide. Perfect harmony and teamwork happened today and it was completely student-led. As the kids finished an art project they slowly filtered to the carpet and began building puzzles together. I just sat and watched with a huge smile on my face. I wrote down the words I heard.
"Everyone work together!" "When everyone works as a team, it's a good job!" "We need your help!" "As a team, THIS happens!" "We can do it!" "Let's work together as a team!" "This is awesome!" "Oh, can I please have that?" "Yes! Yes!" "Wow! You did awesome!" "You did awesome, too!" There were also lots of squeals and high-fives! I'm very proud of the growth in their cooperation skills. We had a great day today! The kids were artists and created circle paintings with their 5/6 buddies. Their art is hung throughout the playground. It was very sweet to see them all working together. Sara Mattia, our awesome garden coordinator, planted tulip bulbs, winter vegetables, and California natives with the class. She taught them about the apex and base of the bulb, roots and intersecting facts about the California natives. Ask your child what they learned and what their job is in regards to the tulip bulb they took home. |
Mrs. SilskiI'm thrilled to be teaching my sixth year at HRCCS! I went to Chico State where I received a BA in Liberal Studies, a Minor in Latin American Studies and my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I taught 3rd/4th for eight years at a multi-age, project-based, performing and visual arts school in my hometown of Stockton. My husband and I moved to Auburn in 2007 to be close to the trails and raise our children, Robby (9) and Amaya (4). I enjoy painting, cooking, working in the yard, and eating my way through San Francisco. Archives
