We have wrapped up our unit on shapes and are moving on to keeping track of what we have counted and adding. We also learned about neighborhoods and created maps of neighborhoods in groups. Chrysanthemum was the story we read to learn about characters. You can ask what the characters say, do and feel to learn more about them. Ask your child to tell you about Chrysanthemum. In our reading groups we read nonfiction books which I sent home in their homework folders to read. We also learned about tools that scientists use. The kids used magnets, rulers, a scale, hand lenses, and a microscope to learn more about the things around them. REMINDERS/UPCOMING DATES:
INDEPENDENT STUDY: Please turn in all paper work on Wednesday.
HOMEWORK: The following assignments are to be done Monday-Friday
Thanks for reading and staying informed! The kids have learned a lot in a short amount of time! This week we learned about the following 3-D shapes: cone, sphere, cube, and cylinder. We learned that they have faces, corners, and edges. The kids finished making their super heroes and presented them to the class. I was impressed with their engineering skills! I am in the process of reassessing their letters and sounds. We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Life Cycle of a Butterfly and discussed fiction and non-fiction books. Next week I will send home work to help with the ones they do not know. This week I sent home the Gum Ball Machine Behavior chart. This will give you an idea of your child's behavior over the past 10 school days. Blue= above and beyond behavior Green= consistently following all of the expectations, an excellent day Red= had to reminded to follow the class expectations too many times. Lastly, today the fabulous Dana Ross painted butterflies with us! Thank you to Season Eckardt and Alexis Shaeffer for donating watercolors to use when Dana comes. REMINDERS/UPCOMING DATES:

Thank you for reading and staying informed! Best, Mrs. Silski ...for the time being! I'll enjoy the cooler weather while it lasts. This week in language arts we have been working on rhyming, counting syllables, and the setting, In math we are learning about the 2-D shapes triangle, square, rectangle, hexagon, circle, and oval. We discussed how many sides and corners each shape has and sorted shapes with curves and without curves. For social studies we are talking about what makes us super and what super powers we have to help others. The kids even created their own super heroes out of wooden beads, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, and construction paper.

Thank you for taking the time to be informed! Please email me if you have any questions. Best, Mrs. Silski I am ready for cooler temperatures and soup for dinner! I plan on decorating my house for Halloween this weekend in hopes of coaxing the temperature to drop.
This week our science theme was All About Me. We drew self-portraits, measured how tall we are, graphed our favorite colors, and found friends that shared similarities and differences to practice comparing and contrasting. I created a Homework Help packet that I sent home in their folders today. Please keep this handy because you will need it to help your child with IS/homework throughout the year. I will talk more about it tonight. REMINDERS:

Mrs. SilskiI'm thrilled to be teaching my sixth year at HRCCS! I went to Chico State where I received a BA in Liberal Studies, a Minor in Latin American Studies and my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I taught 3rd/4th for eight years at a multi-age, project-based, performing and visual arts school in my hometown of Stockton. My husband and I moved to Auburn in 2007 to be close to the trails and raise our children, Robby (9) and Amaya (4). I enjoy painting, cooking, working in the yard, and eating my way through San Francisco. Archives
