HOMEWORK: The following assignments are to be done Monday-Friday
This week we talked about cooperation. We read a story about a new student and focused on making others feel needed and made our new student, Beatrice Bear, feel welcome. Each student had a chance throughout the day to do this. They loved it so much that they asked to bring more new students to class. They were so cute with them today. We also focused on working as a team. We read The Little Red Hen and worked in groups to make a piece of art out of things they collected outside. We had a few rough patches, but learned some valuable lessons. For Choice Time the majority of the class choose to work together to create a mural of the ocean. They were so kind and cooperative and it was done without any prompting by me.
In honor of Earth Day we learned why there is day, night and seasons. We also learned what an equator and axis are. Today we learned 10 things we can do to help the Earth and practiced a few. We picked up all of the trash on campus, turned the water off while we were washing our hands, and turned off lights that were not needed. INDEPENDENT STUDY:

Placer Nature Center came to our school and taught the kids about birds, plants and insects. They made filed observations and learned a lot of interesting facts. The kids are picking up the songs for the play very quickly. I will assign parts next week and let you know about costumes. Next week for social studies we will be learning about cooperation. The following week will be devoted to learning about how to take care of the Earth in honor of Earth Day..

I am very proud of the kids' growth! Just like all of the Spring flowers, they are blossoming. It has been so fun to watch. Capitals, spaces, and punctuation are becoming second nature and they continue to amaze me with their reading abilities.
We will continue to take the timed math tests, so keep on working at home. They love to take them and they get so excited when they move on to the next group. Each day I send home the tests so you can see what they are working on and practice at home. We are working on a play called The Wide Mouthed Frog that we will perform at the end of the year. Parts won't be given out until we have learned the songs. We will learn about each of the animals in the play. Here is a link to the story the play is based on. It's pretty funny! Next week Placer Nature Center will come to our school for an in-school field trip and the sheriff's department will be back for part 2 of their presentation. INDEPENDENT STUDY:

Mrs. SilskiI'm thrilled to be teaching my sixth year at HRCCS! I went to Chico State where I received a BA in Liberal Studies, a Minor in Latin American Studies and my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I taught 3rd/4th for eight years at a multi-age, project-based, performing and visual arts school in my hometown of Stockton. My husband and I moved to Auburn in 2007 to be close to the trails and raise our children, Robby (9) and Amaya (4). I enjoy painting, cooking, working in the yard, and eating my way through San Francisco. Archives
