Raining Cats & Dogs!

1/20/2016

INDEPENDENT STUDY:
  • Lexia- Please work on this for about 20 minutes.  Take a look at what your child's target amount of time is and work towards that throughout the week.  We only do Lexia once/week for a max of 20 minutes so it's important that they are working on it at home.  All of the teachers across the grade levels are noticing a positive difference in the kids that are using it on a regular basis.

  • Let's Find Out!- Go, Team, Go! Please visit http://letsfindout.scholastic.com/ and complete all of the online activities. silski12 is the password

  • Math Worksheets- The worksheet is two-sided.  Just practice writing the numbers 1-20 once.

  • Choose one of the following writing topics.  Focus on a capital letter at the beginning, spaces between words, inventive spelling, and punctuation.  Write TWO OR MORE sentences.  PLEASE USE THE PAPER PROVIDED.
    1. Draw and write about the best things about a rainy day.
    2. Draw and write about what you predict you will be when you grow up and tell why.
    3. Draw and write about a new kind of sandwich you have invented.  Describe it.
    4. Draw and write about penguins.  Use Let's Find Out! to research facts.

  • Read to Self- Most of them will just be reading the pictures.  See if you can do it for 5-10 minutes. Look for the sight words I, am, little, the, to, a, is, have, we, my, like, for, me, with, she, see, look, they, you, of, are, that, do and read the pictures.

HOMEWORK:  The following assignments are to be done Monday-Friday
  • Practice reading our sight words - parents can make flashcards: I, am, the, little, to, a, is, have, we my, like, he, for, me, with, she, see, look, they, you, of, are that do

  • Read to your child for at least 20 minutes.

  • Read the books in the folder each night.  Follow this format:  1.)  Read it to them as you model tracking the words (point to the words as you say them).  2.)  Read it together while tracking the words.  3.)  Have them read it by themselves while tracking the words.  Read these books everyday.  The repetition will make it stick!  On average, we need to hear, see, so something 24 times in order for it to go into our long-term memory.

Thanks you for staying informed!

Best,
Mrs. Silski

    Mrs. Silski

I'm thrilled to be teaching my sixth year at HRCCS!  I went to Chico State where I received a BA in Liberal Studies, a Minor in Latin American Studies and my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.  I taught 3rd/4th for eight years at a multi-age, project-based, performing and visual arts school in my hometown of Stockton. My husband and I moved to Auburn in 2007 to be close to the trails and raise our children, Robby (9) and Amaya (4).  I enjoy painting, cooking, working in the yard, and eating my way through San Francisco.
